Julian, breathtaking surroundings
Update on Julian International Theosophy Conference - August 11 – 14
As officers of ITC we have “good news” to share with you. The international flavor of our conference increases. We are delighted that more than 20 Theosophists from Holland have already registered for the conference. In total, we have over 70 people registered at this time.
We have a wonderful roster of speakers. We will start with speakers from four different Theosophical traditions to highlight our unity at the beginning of the conference. This includes Myrra Lee from ULT, Tim Boyd from TS in A, Herman Vermeulen from TS Point Loma, and two representing Independent Theosophists, Joe Fulton and Jerry Hejka-Ekins. The next morning we highlight Theosophical publications from around the world. The rest of the program will focus on our theme, “The Heart of Wisdom: A Confluence of Science and Spirituality.” We will have presentations by well-known Theosophists, as well as some new voices.
This year we are featuring a presentation by Rollin McCraty, Ph.D., Director of Research at the HeartMath Institute near Santa Cruz, California. The research done at HeartMath has been the subject of hundreds of articles in scientific journals and the popular press. Rollin himself has appeared in films like “I Am” (currently showing) and “The Living Matrix,” excerpts of which were played at our Los Angeles conference in 2009. HeartMath has demonstrated that the heart has neurons like the brain. The heart sends waves up to a distance of at least 12 feet, affecting human beings around us. Heartbeat variability “entrains” the brain and other organs of the body, reflecting the emotions and thoughts we each experience. Currently McCraty’s Global Coherence Project is demonstrating how all of us are affected by the Earth’s geomagnetic waves and how we, humanity, influence the Earth’s electromagnetic field.
On Sunday morning, we will have a wrap-up and overview of the preceding programs and then our annual membership meeting. We are hoping to arrange group transportation back to the airport and/or possibly a tour of Point Loma, the site of a dynamic Theosophical community from the first half of the 20th century.
There will be time to socialize over our shared meals and especially the dessert party at Jim and Sally’s home on Saturday night. Of particular note is the Paramita Pathway up the back hill. Come enjoy the fresh air, foliage and countryside of this lovely mountain resort town.
All roads lead to Julian
We hope you will share all this news with your colleagues and friends. To maximize attendance the registration fee for the conference is only $25. A link to a flyer for the conference is made available for your friends or your center.
Our plans are progressing for the 2012 conference at Wheaton, Illinois, the headquarters of the Theosophical Society in America. This will be a chance to build brotherhood between students of Theosophy and many different traditions. On Wednesday, May 11, Garrett traveled to Wheaton to check out the facilities, food options and nearby accommodations. He also met with TS in A officers to explain our vision, policies and procedures.
He would welcome hearing from you (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) with ideas for the 2012 conference. Our goal is to have detailed plans for the 2012 conference available to those attending the 2011 conference, so we can build enthusiasm and solicit volunteers, since we will not have a local support group on site.
All of the officers value your feedback. Please feel free to contact us via our website where you can also register for the conference. Our website and email addresses are listed below.
Finally, we would appreciate your volunteering to assist at the Julian conference. We need help with registration, transportation around town and to and from the airport, audio/visual equipment, refreshments, speaker coordination, audience microphones, etc. Even an hour or two on one day could be very helpful.
Thank you for your continuing interest and support.
Sincerely yours,
Sally, Jim and Garrett, ITC Officers in California
