Connecting with Concealed Kingdoms

Apart from desisting from the age-old practice of killing one another to supposedly resolve disputes (which at this stage of the game remains a karmic impossibility for humanity), the world faces another major challenge – making contact with invisible worlds. Not worlds hovering in the heavens millions of light years away but hidden realms and their inhabitants here on Earth.

Humans hubristically assert that they and they alone rule this planet of ours. And outwardly, that appears to be the case, with animals, vegetable life and minerals assigned only subsidiary and supporting roles in what is widely regarded as an essentially anthropocentric evolutionary drama. For the most part, there is little or no understanding or acceptance of other departments of the natural world – notably the kingdoms of existence below the mineral, known by esotericists as the etheric states.

These are the higher, more refined regions of the physical plane but formed of increasingly finer matter. They are entirely unrecognised by mainstream science.

The bulk of humanity is equally ignorant of hidden forces, non-material planes of existence and secret commonwealths of nature. They remain convinced that a materially-focused mindset is the only valid one and will therefore ultimately triumph. After all, that hoary mantra ‘seeing is believing’ still preponderates – even though our eyes can see only a tiny sliver of the electromagnetic spectrum. Many birds and animals see far better than we do.

Some continue to believe that the natural world can and should be conquered for the apparent benefit of mankind – even if the profits derived from that means heralding our own destruction. Those fixated in this way have no interest in providence. But many others are beginning to take a more enlightened and holistic approach, regarding the Earth and all its life-forms as a single, inter-connected and living unity. Damage a single part and you damage the entire entity.

This view has crept into popular consciousness over the past half century, championed by the environmental movement and others. But, crucially, this holistic notion of one interdependent life – not just here on Earth but in the entire cosmos – has been known throughout every epoch by esotericists, initiates and adepts. For long eras this knowledge was secret, preserved and protected by small elites of the enlightened. How it’s slithered into the public domain.

Over the past 150 years these ancient ideas have been excavated and are now being re-purposed for a new cycle of human existence. Usually, they are slow to take hold.

However, the overriding reality remains that most people are so deeply rooted and entrenched in the physical world that they can neither conceive nor perceive of any other – especially if happens to be non-material. Since the bulk of modern science still largely insists that the physical realm is the only seat of existence, most people go along with science’s assertions believing they must be correct. ‘Scientists are much cleverer than I am and therefore they must know the truth.’

Even the mere mention of subtle realms causes the scientist visible agitation and a corresponding rise in blood pressure.

These invisible realms and non-material planes of reality are home to countless classes of high and low entities who between them perpetuate life on this planet. In the deep distant past humans could access these planes and commune with their inhabitants. But as humans descended deeper into materialism, this faculty atrophied and almost disappeared.

Nevertheless, these realms can be accessed and explored by those with innate clairvoyant or psychic abilities – and, importantly, by those who dedicate themselves to developing the necessary occult techniques for doing so. This is a prolonged process requiring persistence and spiritual stamina. We’re not talking about huge numbers of people here.

Recognising and reaching those currently forbidden areas of existence isn’t just some weird peccadillo for self-indulgent spiritual dilettantes.

Re-connecting with these kingdoms is a vital priority for the whole of humanity. The entities involved – or at least some of them – seem to wish this. This is emerging as a crucial necessity for the new age we’re entering.

Let’s identify these entities, their function and the areas in which they operate. Essentially there are two different and very distinct groupings which, confusingly, are sometimes conflated into a single kingdom. But they are connected.

Firstly, there are the many hierarchies of beings identified in Christianity as angels. In some Eastern religions they are called devas (meaning ‘shining ones’ in Sanskrit) and by numerous other names in other cultures and traditions. These range from relatively modest angels of the land to mighty cosmic spirits governing suns, planets, solar systems and entire galaxies. They are beings operating principally on the mental plane but can sometimes be observed by some at lower levels.

Secondly, there are numerous classes of nature spirits or elemental beings – the fairies, trolls, djinn and elves of folklore and legend – which feature throughout world history. There are literally millions of local names for these beings. They are essentially astral beings who can assume etheric bodies. And this is when they’re likely to be observed by those who’ve developed such etheric sight.

What is the relationship between these two groups? There is an intimate but very mysterious connection. One way of describing this relationship is that the angels/devas are the architects and the elementals/nature spirits the builders. Angels form the management, conceiving plans and issuing executive orders. The elementals/nature spirits carry out the actual work.

Elsewhere, in my article Nature’s Secret Empires, I drill into more detail about both classes of entities, their wide-ranging functions and the nature of their operations.

The important point is that working together, these two kingdoms sustain us and all life on Earth. This is something we have forgotten and which we now deny.

Having consigned their existence to myth, fairy tales or wishful thinking, we mock the reality of those beings with whom our ancestors interacted. However, if we fail to recognise angels and nature spirits along with the work they do, we are denying the very dynamics of this world. Until we accept that they are key players in infusing essential life-forces into all nature’s departments we cannot consciously and creatively work with them.

And yet the bitter irony is that if we can’t readily perceive either of these multi-classed communities, how can we possibly connect and co-operate with them?

Although there is widespread denial and undisguised derision of these vast empires, millions of people do believe in angels. Look at the number of books on the subject that fill entire sections of bookshops? Books outlining how angels can help with health, wealth and finding a love-match. How many people in Asia and elsewhere leave food on shrines to attract or appease the local spirits in their neighbourhood. Spirits in Thailand, for example, seem to have a great fondness for Coca-Cola!

In terms of angels, both believers and non-believers – especially in the Judaeo-Christian tradition – often retain a stereotypical and ecclesiastically-inspired view of winged, beatific beings doing good deeds. Other religions have their own versions coloured by long-held belief and strict tradition.

And yet some people know intuitively that these entities exist and operate unrecognised and unseen. A few do try to co-operate with them.

There is also much talk of each of us having a guardian angel and personal evidence throughout my life convinces me entirely of their existence. On numerous occasions they have prevented me from doing irrational, stupid or foolish things and also protected me from external threat or harm. I’ve never seen them intervene in these moments of danger or crisis, but I have felt both their presence and their influence, sometimes very acutely.

I’m not alone in thinking this. In recent years the evidence for their existence has piled up in all kinds of disparate ways. For example, in a significant proportion of Near Death Experiences people report the existence of high spiritual, angelic beings who often offer help, advice or reassurance of some kind.

Suspending the mockery, cynicism and denial and then accepting the possibility that angels and nature spirits are very real would be a good start. After all, not that many centuries ago (despite discoveries millennia earlier) people were persecuted and marginalised for believing that the Earth was not flat as the church insisted but a sphere. There were those among Christopher Columbus’s seamen who believed that at some point they would fall off the edge of the world – but went along anyway. They overcame their prejudices and we need to do the same

The new age necessitates new forms of co-operation with all facets of nature. It demands ditching the suspicions and certainties of the immediate past and humbly admitting that perhaps our ancestors from long ago knew much more of these hidden worlds then than we know now.
